Composite Decking or Wood Decking: Which Should You Choose for Your Northern Virginia Deck?

Wood Decking / Composite Decking Differences

There are a few differences between wood and composite decking in terms of maintenance, appearance, and durability. Wood decks are made from treated lumbers, while composite decking is made of recycled wood fibers and fillers, as well as waste plastics. Because of wood decking's natural materials, wooden decks require routine maintenance and protection from the elements, including sanding, relsealing, and painting. What's more, wood decks are very susceptible to moisture and insect damage. In comparison, composite decking is rot-resistant, insect-resistant, and moisture-resistant and require less maintenance. However, composite decking is heat sensitive and may warp more easily than wood decking.

However, composite decking can fade after a number of years, but can not be restored to its original state, and may only be treated or replaced.
